Chris Bates ensures that the time and resources of the vice chancellor for business affairs (VCBA) are deployed productively and assists in facilitating effective decision making through strategic commitments; thorough advance preparation of the VCBA and other division leaders with preparation and communication of all advance information necessary; and by assigning and monitoring follow-up responsibilities on her behalf.
He manages the staff of the VCBA office, including executive assistants, student employees, interns, and the university program specialist.
He guides Business Affairs support for the Board of Trustees as well as administration and governance for the boards of University affiliated entities administered through the division.
Bates represents the Vice Chancellor as needed in meetings, conferences and other administrative activities.
Bates has a Master in Librarianship degree from the University of South Carolina. He has a background in librarianship, library operations, and library management. He worked in a variety of roles for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Libraries for 24 years before coming to UNC Charlotte in 2012.
