The vice chancellor for business affairs is UNC Charlotte’s chief financial and administrative officer. The vice chancellor reports to the chancellor and is a member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet. The vice chancellor’s office staff includes the special assistant to the vice chancellor, the executive assistant, and the secretary.
The vice chancellor guides the Division of Business Affairs whose purpose is to provide exemplary support for the instructional, research, and community-service functions that are the mission of UNC Charlotte. It is equally essential that the Division of Business Affairs supports a campus environment that encourages the active involvement of students in their personal and intellectual development and promotes responsible citizenship. In the fulfillment of this purpose/mission, the Division of Business Affairs shall efficiently utilize available resources (financial, human, and facilities) to ensure the highest quality in its service to the university community.

Business Services — as the name suggests — provides necessary products and services to the entire UNC Charlotte community (students, faculty and staff, their families and visitors). Examples include providing a properly stocked bookstore, printers and copiers in key locations and dining venues that meet nutritional needs and accommodate a wide range of tastes and schedules. Other services essential and expected on a modern university campus include orderly parking, reliable mail delivery, a multi-function ID Card system, convenient ATM stations and liberally distributed beverage and snack vending machines.
UNC Charlotte Business Services consists of contractor managed “auxiliary services” such as Campus Dining Service and Meal Plans, Vending, Campus Bookstore, Reprographics and Trademarks and Licensing. Other areas of responsibility include the 49er ID card, Parking and Transportation Services, Appeals and Mail Services, all of which are university operated. Business Services is charged with the task of providing these goods and services and the personnel and expertise they require within a sound business environment. In so doing, Business Services supports the University’s educational mission and enhances campus life.

UNC Charlotte Facilities Management Department is responsible for all facilities planning, operations, and capital construction. Capital expansion projects expenditures exceeded $350 million over the past four years.
The Department is responsible for all maintenance, repair, renovation construction, and operations of the real property of the University. This includes roads, grounds, athletic fields, buildings, and utility systems. Facilities Management also performs the housekeeping, waste management, and recycling functions. Our organization employs 358 full time staff and has an annual budget of $31 million.

The Department of Systems Development takes full advantage of the use of information technology to provide high quality business services to support the university’s mission of instruction, research, and public service. The unit strives to employ state of the art information technology to improve accessibility to business related information thereby enhancing campus-wide fiscal management. Systems Development is responsible for the analysis, functional design and implementation of information technology systems that support the business functions of the university. The unit serves as the intermediary between university departmental end-users and the staff within the Information Technology organization. When appropriate, the unit also serves as a liaison between departmental end-users and commercial software application providers.
