On May 18, the U.S. Department of Labor published final regulations concerning the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and revisions to the overtime exemption threshold. These changes are national in scope and not exclusive to North Carolina or the UNC System.
The effective date for these overtime changes is December 1, 2016.
The new salary threshold for overtime eligibility is $47,476 annually or $913 weekly. The previous threshold was $23,660 annually or $455 weekly.
The Office of Human Resources and the Office of Legal Affairs are reviewing the final FLSA regulations and will confer with both state and UNC System officials regarding how these changes will be implemented on campus and across the system.
